Managing uncertainty and demand volatility poses significant challenges for large manufacturers in resource planning. Traditionally, manufacturers respond to demand fluctuations through three main strategies: building upfront inventory, increasing production line capacity through overtime, and outsourcing capacity temporarily. However, these strategies come with considerable costs, impacting key business metrics such as profitability and cash flow.
