A Review Based Approach To Domestic Violence: Conceptualization, Forms And Theoretical Debates
Abstract
This study provides an accurate conceptualization of domestic violence as per theoretical backgrounds and frames domestic violence into theoretical explanations, including social perspectives. This research employs a scoping review technique. A total of 17 documents were sampled for this scoping review. The bias in the selection of documents was reduced by reviewing the papers with 2 colleagues in the field of social sciences. The data has been analyzed in thematic form using Braun and Clark's (2019) reflexive thematic analysis. It is concluded that control, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and verbal abuse are domestic violence related acts and behaviors. The general theory of domestic violence explains domestic violence very simply: [1]it results from learning. The notion of instrumental roles provides men a dominant position leading to domestic violence, which is a structural functional explanation. Coercive control theory sheds light on the issue of domestic violence from coercion and control points of view. Feminist extends their theories and discussion over domestic violence through indicators and attributes such as masculinity, patriarchy, sexual differences and sexism, prevailing economic and political system.
