Perspectives Of Educationists And Policy Makers Regarding Problems In The Implementation Of Guidance And Counseling Services At Higher Secondary Schools In Peshawar Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Abstract
Guidance and counseling services is the integral part of education which enhances personal, social and emotional growth of the student along with academic development. It promotes the holistic development of the student which is the essence and purpose of education. This study aims to explore the perspectives of educationist and policy makers regarding problems in the implementation of guidance and [1]counseling services at higher secondary schools in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Using a qualitative research design, all educationists and policy makers were taken as population of the study. Keeping in view the expertise and experiences, 6 educationists and policy makers were chosen as a sample using purposive sampling technique. Semi-structured interview was used as a tool to have in depth investigation and deeper understanding. Thematic data analysis was used for pinpointing the key subject matter. Thematic analysis revealed major problems including lack of funding, deficiency of awareness and understanding, social and cultural barriers, and lack of qualified and trained counselors. The study recommends providence of well trained counselors, adequate resources, parental and public awareness and a comprehensive framework to strengthen the delivery of G & C services at higher secondary schools in district Peshawar Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
