Abstract
Basic amenities are pre requisite for the development of country and at the household level. Keeping this in mind the present paper has been focusing on the basic amenities that households are having in the Raichur district. Raichur is one of the most backward districts in terms of household amenities as well as human development. Therefore for the present paper the Raichur district has been selected purposefully and the 2011 census data related to Raichur district has been utilized for the analysis purpose. The simple percentage method was adopted for the analysis. Further, the analyses were restricted to SC, ST and other social groups in the district. As for as literacy is concerned both SC and ST are below the district (59 percent) average. Only less than 53 percent of SC households in the district are accessible to safe drinking water and it is also below the district average of 58 percent and state average of 70.69 percent. [1] Among ST category it is around 48.77 percent households are having the safe drinking water facilities and this is below the district and state average. It is very embracing that only 6.44 percent of ST households are having toilet facilities in the district. But this varies as the places of residence differ from rural to urban area. Urban households are better than rural households in the district among the marginal communities. The paper concludes that more attention needs to be given in improvement of basic amenities among the social deprived communities.
