Abstract

The study was aiming at investigating the effects of tongue twisters in improving English language fluency at Elementary level. The objective of the study was to investigate the effect of tongue twisters on the improvement of English Language fluency. To achieve the above objective, the following null hypothesis was tested; there is no significant difference between the mean scores of control and experimental group in improving fluency of students. A sample of 30 students of 5th grade were taken as a sample of the study. The sample students were divided by paired random sampling technique into experimental and controlled groups. Each group comprised 15[1] students of 5th class. An experimental equivalent group pretest- post-test research design was used for the conduction of study. Both the groups were provided the same learning materials but the controlled group was provided the traditional method while “tongue twister technique” as a supplementary method was provided to the experimental group for the period of six academic weeks. For data collection tests and observation checklist was developed. To measure the performance of the students, statistical techniques such as  mean, standard deviation and t-test were applied to analyze the collected data. The results of the study indicated that there was significant effect of tongue twister technique on the performance of students. The results revealed that the students of experimental group performed better than the students of control group. It was recommended that tongue twisters should be included in the curriculum. This study is significant for curriculum developers, teachers, students and other researchers.
