An Investigation On Effect Of Sleep On Athletes’ Mental Performance In Sports
Abstract
Sleep plays a crucial role in physical and mental restoration, particularly for athletes who require optimal cognitive function to perform at their best. This study investigates the impact of sleep quality and duration on the mental performance of athletes in various sports. The cross-sectional survey strategic approach was used in study to attain the objectives of the study and test hypotheses. Data was collected through two adopted questioners. The data collected from 579 athletes of public and private higher secondary schools, colleges & university of Mianwali district Mianwali, Punjab province of Pakistan. The collected data from representative sample was tabulated and analyzed by inferential statistics (t test, ANOVA & correlation). The results of study reveals that there is no significant relationship between sleep and mental performance, there is no significant difference between views of university, college and higher secondary educational level on basis of athlete’s location, gender and age about sleep and mental performance. It was recommended that coaches, teachers and sports managers may plan for the athletes relaxing bed time routine and schedule sleep hours for athletes to enhanced mental performance of athletes, psychologist and cancellers may focus on improved wellbeing and decision-making skills to improve sleep and mental performance of athletes, coaches, teachers and sports managers may develop individualized sleep plans based on the athletes' unique needs and circumstances.
