The French Colonial Administrative Organization In Algeria The Light Of The City Of Tébessa Supporting Documents And Texts From 1870 To 1912
Abstract
Following the French occupation, Algeria was administratively divided into three distinct territories: civil, military, and mixed, across the three departments of Tell. Each department was overseen by a division general, supported by circle commanders, Arab offices, and indigenous chiefs. Tebessa, noted for its strategic eastern location bordering Tunisia, was categorized within the mixed territories. This article delves into previously unpublished documents to explore the colonial administration strategies applied specifically to Tebessa, particularly following the discovery of significant natural resources such as iron and phosphates.
