Maulvi Azizuddin Aziz : The Official Poet Of Bahawalpur State
Abstract
Maulvi Azizuddin Aziz was a trusted member of Nawab Bahawalpur Sadiq Muhammad Khan. He was a man of many talents. His forte was Tarikhgoi: the art of composing stanza/s showing the year of an event. Apart from this, he was a calligrapher, a court poet and a Mufti. He was dubbed Yaqoot Raqm by the Nawab for his wonderful works in calli[1]graphy. This article presents the life and works of the poet. Aziz wrote tarikh for the mosques were built in the time of Nawab. These mosques still contain the calligraphic works of the calligraphy. Aziz invited Maulana Khalil Ahmed Saharanpuri and spent twelve years there to head the Madresa Arabia of Bahawalpur. During these years, Maulana Saharanpuri had written Hidayaatur Rasheed ila Aqwamul Hind.
